Butterfly

The Butterfly valve, along with the ball valve and plug valve, are part of the family of quarter-turn valves.

Butterfly valves are typically utilized in larger valve sizes for chemical, wastewater and fire protection services. These valves have a circular body with a circular disk closure member that pivotally turns 90 degrees from open to close to control flow. When the valve is open, it splits the flow into two separate paths. The design of the Butterfly valve is essentially symmetrical allowing either end to be the inlet allowing flow to come through either direction.

An advantage of using a Butterfly valve is that they are lightweight and save space.

Butterfly valves come in a variety of designs: wafer, lug, double flanged, short and long pattern, triple offset, double block, bleed, etc.
